Default Serious oil problem. Need pro advice

Ok long story short 94 lt1 auto was showing low oil pressure. idle cold it is 60 psi. hot it is maybe 5 psi. Checked with a mechanical gauge and it shows the same as dash gauge.

Change out pump yeterday and the same problems. This things runs like a beast and builds up to 60 psi wot. No noise from the bottom end or anything. The pan was spotless when chaniging pump.

What do i look for next guys? I am at a loss?
checked the new pump with a mechanical gauge and its the same deal.

No coolant leaks
the engine has 80 thousand miles
the oil leavel stays normal as well as the coolant.
This thing doesn't smoke anything either.

I would agree that you have excessive bearing clearance.Probably main bearings since you dont have any engine noise.time for a rebuild

The late model LT-1's have been notorius for having low oil pressure with the oil hot at idle. According to Melling all you need for oil pressure is 10 psi per every 1,000 rpm. Is the oil pressure drop a new problem or one that has been this way since you owned the car?

Used a autometer mechanical.
I was afraid it was bearing related almost 0 psi and the car has been driven like this for a month. Its a fairly new problem. This car has not been miss treated and doesn't even have a mod on it. I was thinking if it was bearing would I not have seen some in the pan?
Thanks for the help

If it is a fairly new problem then yes it probably is a bearing problem. As for being able to see particles in the oil pan, you would have to look at things with a microscope to see the brass bearing material. You probably could "roll" a new set of main bearings into the motor fairly easily in order to get the oil pressure back up. You might do a compression check and a leak down test before determining a complete engine rebuild.

if you want to check ppm for wear metals a $22.50 oil analysis will usually do the job

have you tried any different oil(s)

can you increase the pump base pressure with some mod to it?

Holly's car had low idle oil pressure and has 200k on it. I certainly wouldn't rebuild untill you get some noise out of it at least.

james fyi your sig is wrong now and you also don't have an RPM link

throw some heavy weight oil in there , you'll be fine. this started happening to my camaro after i cammed it. THe higher weight oil will fix our problem for the short term or atleast till you have the money to rebuild. Castrol 10w-40 or 50, w/e's highest.
