Default Turn the crank to start my car?

ok i have a 1993 trans am the engine is from a 93-94 corvette but just the engine and thats it...used my own wiring harness and everything.....i have my starter on a push start button where i just turn the key to on then push. my car wouldnt start was just making a loud noise so i took off the starter and it was busted where it goes to the flywheel i went and got one for a 1997 trans am and put it on and it would just click when i tried to start it so i turned the crank with a wrench and it sounded like the fuel pump or somehting would come on then it would start......i would turn it off and it would click again....i took it out becasue they said the 93 and 97 starters where different so i got the 93 one and hooked it up and the same thing so i turned the crank untill the sound came on and it would start ...turn it off and it wouldnt go again till i turned it to the noise ...can anyone hepl me i gave as much detail as i could ......

Exactly what noise are you hearing when you turn the motor over by hand? Is it a whirring noise like the fuel pump or is it the air you hear being compressed in the cylinder?

Maybe you are missing some teeth on the flywheel?

Yeah I would turn the engine over by hand while somebody watches the teeth on the flywheel. It sounds like that could be an issue.
