Default Need a new clutch?

I just bought this 94 Firebird Formula M6 and I'm pretty sure it needs a new clutch but transmissions aren't really my thing. Anyway, when I let out the clutch in first, it grabs and doesn't seem to slip, but it makes a nasty grinding noise and vibrates until fully engaged. Obviously, it could probably just be the plates need to be replaced, but I can't really tell any slipping and it only does it sometimes (more when the car is warmer). And when I was playin with the clutch, it seemed to do it more if you let out the clutch at higher rpms and as the fluid gets warmer. Sometimes is does it into third (not very often though). Other than that, it shifts great once you get past first and has never thrown it out of gear. What do you guys think?

get going and put it say 5th and floor it and see if it slips or on the freeway doing 70 or so dS to 4th and floor it see if it slips and the noise could be the TO bering and you cant just replace the disk just buy a new pressure plate clutch disk TO brings and get your flywheel resurfaced

dude, thats the Throwout bearing, not the clutch itself, so yea....you're looking at a new clutch and flywheel, its pretty steep too mate. If its hard to put INTO gear and grinds going in gear, then its the TO bearing. Change it ASAP or else you can seriously screw your M6 up.

Thats honestly what I thought...throw out bearing. Just wasn't sure. Do you guys recommend a certain aftermarket clutch kit, or should I just go GM parts? I don't plan on throwing any money into this car performance wise so I should probably just go stock, just kind of a temporary dd that I can have fun with.

And no, it doesn't slip at higher speeds with hard acceleration and doesn't do it while downshifting. Its not hard to put it into gear, just starts the grinding noise when I start letting off the clutch. It barely does it if I let off the clutch at minimal rpms though and is worse with higher rpms. How much am I lookin at to get a new clutch, bearing, and labor you think? Kinda sucks not having a shop to use now...payin someone else to fix your car sucks.

I think you should get an aftermarket clutch, I never liked the feel of a stock clutch. I don't think you are looking a lot of extra cash either.

What aftermarket clutch kits do you guys recommend? I plan on selling this car soon to get a WS6, so I don't want to go all out on this thing.

If you're going to sell the car just put whatever is cheapest or a stock clutch on.

Just buy a T/o bearing by itself and swap it out if you are selling it soon. No point in throwing money into the car that you wont get back out of it.

If I just put in a new Throw out bearing, should I also throw a new pilot bearing in there also? What other parts should I replace while the clutch is out?

So now sometimes it is hard to get it into second gear, but thats the only gear thats a problem. Could this be from the throw out bearing also?
