Default Sealed to Vented Opti Conversion Questions

Hey everyone, i'm getting ready to convert from the sealed unit to the vented unit. Ive already got a cover off a 97 (I know i dont need the crank sensor) but i wanted to make sure the connectors for the opti are the same. Any one have a definate answer for me? Someone told me that the vented units connector was deeper than the sealed unit. Thanks for any help!

The Plug that goes into the top of the distributor is vented dist only, so be sure that you get that harness with your distributor. The cam will likely be wrong, and you'll also need the cam gear from a vented car.... if I remember correctly.

This is going on an engine that is being built now, so the cam is for a vented one, so thats taken care of. Does GM anyone have a GM part number for the harness?? Does any one know whats the difference in the connectors?

shbox's website has the pn's for everything, very helpful.

Not sure what the difference is in connecters, but you need the newer opti harness for it to work.

not to stray from the thread, but what exactly does the vented opti do, other than the obvious? Can you just drill/tap the opti and then fit it into the intake system to pull air out? Im not too clear on what part of the opti is actually afected by what parts, so can anyone enlighten me?

The non-vented opti does have vent holes on the bottom, but they're just holes. The vented opti I think more likely refers to the cap. It comes with hoses and slightly modified cap for the hoses. One lets air in, thru the top, and one sucks air out the bottom via vacuum thru the intake manifold. Well, alteast that's how my MSD cap does it. Of course it comes with seals in the kit, and you need to cover the 3 small vent holes on the bottom.
