Default Which Cam? CC305, CC306, CC503 or GM847

OK folks this is what I have, a bored .040 over 383 short block (396ci) fully ported stock heads with trick flow push rods and 1.6 roller rockers, port matched intake, 58mm throttle body, shorty headers. This engine is going into a T/A show/street car so i doubt i will ever race it, I am confused on which cam to use. But, any info on which cam will work best for me would be greatly appreciated. I do intend to get it tuned by PCM4LESS once all work is done. Thanks inadvance.

I feel for what you are doing with the car,the 305 or the 503 would be great however you should look at the LPE 219/219!

It will really depend on you and what you want to do with it. The GM847 and CC306 will by far give the most power but they will need to be revved higher than say the cc503.

None of the above!

A 396 will make more power with a custom cam designed for your heads and other mods and intended use.

None of those cams are a good choice for a 396, unless its like a daily driver and he doesn't want any cammed behavior from it.

I would say custom cam as well. That's the route i'm taking with my 383.

I agree with a custom cam. Ported heads and that big of displacement would make the 503 less useful. It is nice for stock cubes when you don't want to turn crazy RPM, but that motor should pull enough air to make a larger custom cam useful.

Comp makes a nice cam off the shelf

But to clarify, a .040 over 383 in NOT a 396, its a 385.

Heres the cam

COMP extreme CCA-236-242-12

@.050 236 242

1.5 rocker .521 .540

1.6 rocker .556 .576

LSA 112

Op range 2500-6000

yeah more cubic inches makes the same cam more mild. You'll definitely want a custom grind for your application

I would think since LPE did MANY 383 style strokers for a wide veriety of people the 219 would give him the balance of what he described.
