Hopefully yours isnt as bad as mine. There are bits of aluminum filling the intake manifold, Oil in the coolant, coolant has filled the exhaust. I have to throw away virtually everything except the intake manifold. Since I am putting new bearings into a stock shortblock its only going to cost me about 600 bucks total to get back on the road.

I've spun a few bearings in a couple motors. I just bought another used shortblock. The problem being you never know what you're going to get or how long it will last. If you have the coin to spare get a new shortblock and at minimum just bolt on your original top end. That's the cheap rebuild.

I toasted my crank when I spun 6 rods, so you just have to start by pulling the motor and replacing the parts that got smoked. But there is a list of thing that will have to get replaced; fluids, gaskets, barrings, other than that play it by ear.

The biggest thing is to make sure the block is good. But you want to take apart the block apart carefully and see what the story its telling you.
