The irons flow like 5% more than the 95 and earlier aluminums, not a huge amount, certainly not worth specifically swapping too. They have pressed studs which should be machined for screwin if you plan on running anything serious as far as a cam. The 96-7 aluminum heads equal their flow but are not desirable for serious porting due to being thin.

They are not bad heads if looking to stay mild, several guys have had them crack over time if seriously ported.

My wagon is getting to be high mile and I want to put together another engine and will lightly touch up a pair of irons for it myself, the Caprice is the fast car though and it has ported early aluminums.

Your sig says turbo build, for that the big iron head roughly 64cc chamber might be good as well as irons durability, and with boost I think it could make good power with mild porting.

ok well my next question would be about how big the combustion chamber is on either head?

The aluminums are quoted as 54-58cc, I know after porting and some moderate milling mine are 53.xx so I tend to believe they are on the lowend of the quoted range say 54-56cc, stock parts will vary.

The irons are more like 62-64cc again parts vary. Nice thing with them is you could use a d-dish say -16cc piston.

Better quench over a full dish piston, they have a quench pad to compliment the one in the head. Not saying this is an all important thing just a slight benifit.
