I still dont see a performance advantage. Minitubs are not allowed in ANY of the street type classes.

MATT, IMO those are probably gonna rub on the inside if you street drive the car, and most definately will rub on the right side on launch....you need to beat that hump in some more on the RR.

Take the springs out and jack the rear up in the car and see where they hit, IMO you need more clearance on the front of the wheelwells also.

Also, the fender lip needs to be rolled or cutoff, I pushed my car on the trailer once with it setup like yours before it was narrowed and tubbed and the fenderlip ruined a brand new drag radial, it bairly touched it and sliced it like a razor blade.

Just trying to help.

I plan on doing that too. But I run a spool and the 16" drag radials rubbed while turning last year. This year every thing will have rod ends and no poly on the back. I hope that helps but I will more and likely have to mini tub it after the shootout. I'm replacing the 9" I have now with a fabbed and narrowed housing. I would like to keep the back down this year. I had the eibach drag springs last year and it looked like a monster truck with the 28's compared to some other cars.

Thanks for the pics too. I was wondering if I should just hack the bump stops off or trim the steel that its mounted to.

i thought i was looking at a pic. of my rear wheel well, lmao!!!

a mini tub out fitted with a larger tire can provide a traction advantage which equals a performance advantage. but if the suspension is setup properly a larger tire may not be necessary. it can also allow for relocation of the rear shocks. but that can't help either

He did

BTW All I did was cut the bump stops off and some of the rib's. then I worked over the hump at the front of each wheel well. They fit with tons of room and no rubbing. No need to mini tube any thing. IF I shorten the axle some I have lots of romm to drop the car in the back even more and still have lots of room.

The Bottle is a standard 10Lbs CO2 bottle. I only do steel with it so No argon

Taner, it has been proven on this board that you can put the biggest drag radial they make on these cars with NO minitub on a 10 inch rim. Many now have 325/50 on a 10 inch rim with 7.5 BS with no minitub.

So how does it make a car have an advantage over a NON minitubbed car?

I am just curious, I MIGHT be able to come if the car stays happy and it likes the gas I about to put on it. But if I have to bracket race(NOT!) or run the outlaw class because I have a minitub...I will have to stay home.

I understand the minitub rule to keep out the guys wanting to run big tires, but if your on a 325/50/15 drag radial I think ya should be able to run. That's just my opinion though.

skinnies,

i see what you mean there, and it does make sense.

fastfatboy,

hmmm a big tire, ie. slick. please do not limit your frame of mind to DR's, not everyone runs them you know. when minitub is mentioned i think slick, i did not state at any point that this had anything to do with DR's. i had an open mind in thinking about this. i mean if I put mini tubs in, I would maximize my tire combo and gear ratio around the new found room in the wheel wells.
