Default Tuning...Maf or Speed Density?

I'm getting a street tune tomorrow. I planned on keeping my maf but I know some of the local guys are running speed density tunes on the lt1s and ls1s. What are the benefits to running speed density over a regular maf tune?

for your car, none.

Easier for some turbo setups, but other than that, stick with the maf.

Put it this way unless you are making at least 500rwhp, stay with the MAF.

Tell him N/A cars still benefit from a maf,now if he had a turbo he should really consider SD tune cause the turbo will exceed the mafs capabilities at 3/4 throttle...

To do it right, yes you need a wideband. Although a good tuner can typically get you somewhere in the general optimal range if your O2s are working properly.

Speed Density on the lt1 pcm is a joke anyways. On the ls1... its easy and works good. At a certain point (hp level, boost level.... just depends... its all about CFM!!!) you will max out the MAF. At that point you need to get either a MAF that reads more (cfm) or go SD.

Speed Density figures fueling using an algorithm and feedback from MAP, TPS, RPM, intake temp, and motor temp. Use of o2 sensor depends on tuner and goals with the car. IMHO speed density would have been a better move than the maf in cars mainly just cause of cost (dont have to pay for a MAF on every car).
