Default mpg question

i was just wondering im mostly stock a4 (stock gears) and i seem to be getting 13-14mpg city granny driving (not going above 2200 rpms) and 16mpg highway. does this sound right to u? because i see some guys on here with cams etc getting around 20 mpg. i don't mind the bad gas milage which is why i bought a v8 just wondering if its normal or should i be looking for somthing wrong.

Check your air filter if its dirty this could cause your horrible mileage. I have bolt ons and a 3200 stall with 3:23's and I get about 18-20 on average.

fuel filter, check for misfires, correct tire pressure, all the normal stuff you would do for any vehicle, try seafoaming it, search seafoam theres a good write up on how to do it on here somewhere....

that mileage is deff. low. granted mine's an m6 but i get 27 hwy and normally around 19 cty thats driving regular. you should be just a few mpg under both of those figures or so.

what he said ^^^^

That sounds really low for an A4, granted the A4's don't get AWESOME mileage.

Do some regular maintance stuff to it and see if that helps, if that doesn't try the O2 sensors.

16mpg highway is definitely on the very low side for mostly stock car.

I get about the same MPG as you in my stock 95 3.23 car. Most of my drives are short distance and in pretty heavy stop and go traffic though.

I haven't seen it mentioned so I will introduce it. Your temp sensor can make this happen as well. The only way to check it is with a live scan. Make sure that it is reading the proper operating temperature. What usually happens is they become scaled over and then malfunction. They can disquise themselves as a bad O2, WITH POOR POWER HESITATION AND BAD GAS MILEAGE~!
I would suggest checking through everything, making sure that everything simple is working right such as plugs wires etc. Review and do what you have been advised above and if that doesn't work (O2's need to be checked via a live scan as well) scan it and see what ya got going on.It could also be an IAC or TPS issue only a scan will tell.
The A/F ratio is adjusted via the temperature that is how the temp sensor plays a role for anyone wanting more elaboration.
