Default 1969 camaro with LT1 question

Hey guy's,just purchased a 69 camaro with a lt1,it's a project so working some bugs out with my fuel pump and other thing's,so today I was working on the car (car running like crap will not idle or take fuel detonation you name it)so I took off the mass air meter and decided to run the car with it off,car cranked fine, idled, and ran totally better, what gives,I was told all of the part's in the camaro came out of a wrecked 95 trans am,maybe a bad meter, different computer,I was thinking maybe he had the year mixed up and it was a speed density but it has the connector for the mass air meter,I've had several fox body mustangs and three C5 corvettes but this is new to me any suggestions. And also it had a granatelli meter on it,any info would be great.THANKS GUYS!

put a stock MAF on it, get rid of the GMS meter, and do you know if it has a tune? if so from who? also, check the plugs, make sure the wires arent crossed on the plug side or the opti side, or touching the headers/manifolds. do you know how many miles are on the engine itself along with other parts?

I envy you, my next project was a 69 Camaro with a LT1 but good cheap 69's are about as hard to find as a Hooker without an STD!

Kinda sounds like a bad MAF. I had a similar problem and replaced the MAF. Also, have you checked all vacuum hose connections.Vaccuum leak behind the MAF=rough to no idle

When the MAF is removed it runs in SD. If the stock MAF doesn't fix it there's no harm leaving it off and running in SD.
