For 95+ (vented opti-II) it's 1/4 inch diameter and should extend .620 +/- 0.010 inch in order to drive the opti. If to long it will physically damage the unit. The 93/94 version you have for opti-I (non vented, not driven by the dowel) is .300 +/- 0.010. I don't know the total dowel length, but you can figure that out using hole depth + .620. Any engine/machine shop should have dowel material laying around, if it's to long you can cut/grind it down.

okay thanks man so basically any dowel that fits in there and is the right length (.620 + depth of hole) will work then ?? does it have to be a special metal (hardened etc..) ??
and it's just a dowel right, meaning it doesn't have to be welded in or any funny stuff like that ?

so in theory i can go find a dowel from napa or something that is the right diameter, cut it to length, pop it in the cam and im good to go thats it ?

No such thing as a "93 hotcam"

If you're talking about a GM LT4 hotcam, when it is installed in a 92-94 LT1, the dowel pin is pushed in. So if that's what you have, you need to pull it back out.

when you take out the stock cam just measure the dowel and see if its the same length as the hotcam one and go from there. my hotcam dowel was exactly the same length as my stock one. but i have a 97.
