A.I.R. delete/removal???
Hey fellas, I just installed a set of MAC mid lenth headers on the LT1 this weekend (PITA)... I got to looking at the overall appearance under the hood. I see that I have a lot of potential cleaning up what I already have and making it look really nice. One thing that I'm wondering is, can I remove the A.I.R. check valves and tubing and weld up/cap off the header inserts? This would make a better appearance especially on the passenger side. I had a custom 2 1/2 in y-pipe made and threw the cat in the dumpster! I'm under the impression that there is really no need for that a i r system now.?.?. Any ideas? Thanks

air
Thanks for the advice. I could easily cap off the insert on the headers, leave the a i r tubing open (because it just blows air) and leave the pump installed for now. To me, that shouldn't set a code due to the fact that the system is still functioning but just not the way it was ment to... right???

I know on the OBD 1 cars, you just make sure the fuse is good and you pull the pigtail out of the air pump. Then there is no SES light. I didn't have an AIR pump for a while so this is what I did.

seriously....
I don't know about all that... I'm kinda gulable but if it were plausable, I think everybody would be doing it. Besides, the a i r pump only operates at idle/low idle I think.

done
Well, heres what I ended up with. I welded a two way bolt. Then I self screwed the a i r check valve into one of the ends and welded it too (after I removed it from that long *** piping). Screwed it into the header, cut the hose to length, and plugged it back in. I probly need to post a picture for a better visual.
Over all outcome, the a i r system (technically not used) but still in tact and appears much neater within the engine bay, instead of wrapping all the way down the valve cover and back. Plus, I have so much more access to get in there and torque check my header bolts on occasion.
Let me know if you guys would like a picture of how it ended up.
