2nd opinion on oil leak!?!
ok..i have been trying to hunt down this oil leak on this motor that i have just put in a week ago. it seems to be coming from the back of the motor, not on top but between the trans and motor. it doesnt seem to leak while idleing but starts a quick drip while revved.next weekend i am going to have to pull my trans for a 3400 yank swap so i am going to have to get up to that area anyways. but my assumption is that it is coming from one of those plugs where the back of the cam is located. just wanting a 2nd opinion on this and any info on if or which one of the plugs has oil pressure .
thanks for any info

Hey, just a possibility, I had the oil pressure switch leaking once, I accidently cracked it when I installed the engine, it was leaking enough to make it look like the rear main was leaking, I guess it was dripping down the block, I used a spot mirror to get back there and see, just a possibility I want to throw out there.

well the back of the motor up top is very visible in my chevelle.the sender is definitely not leaking, nor is the the intake rear seal .up top is dry as the day i put the motor in. it doesnt look like the rear seal is leaking, but just oil running down the backside of the block.and its gotta be oil pressure related cuz it only does it when revved up. it doesnt leak when idling.

check the oil dipstick tube if it is coming from the passenger side... i had that problem after header install... only leaked when i revved it... i didnt know until i took it to the track and black smoke came out from my a$$ end like crazy.... most people thought i blew my engine lol.... i just replaced the oil dipstick tube...

Rear main seal is definitely last resort. Never assume its that seal until you check everything else. Intake seals on the LT1 are a weak point. Just get a mirror and start at the top of the engine. Pressure wash the backside of the engine if you can, that will make it easier for you to find the leak.

yeah there isnt no tellin till i drop my tranny ad flywheel outta the way. decided to get my stall early and am going to do it this weekend, so i will definitely find the culprit whether its the rear seal or the cam plug or something. just hate having a damn oil leak on a fresh rebuild lol

I rebuilt the top end of mine and I got a slight leak just about a week ago. The Timing cover is leaking along one side. That is my weekend project at the moment. I just redid the timing chain, gears, lifters (had a bad one), rockers, springs, valve seals, and pushrods in June. I probly screwed something up.
