Hey guys just something i've been pondering. To start my friend had a 1994 Vert M6 Z28 with only a Borla Catback and a "chip". His gf's dad has a 1999 SVT Cobra. He raced the cobra with her dad driving it and he says he beat it by a couple lengths. His gf also agreed. So is this really possible with so little mods? I was looking at the specs and it says the cobras ratings are 320HP 317TQ. That is well more than an LT1, especially a 94, and they are about the same weight. So did this really happen? I'm just wondering if the 99 and 01 cobras are horrible performers like i've read and heard. Thanks - Zack
The 99 SVT Cobra is to slow. Ford did a recall saying the GT was running the same ET as the SVT Cobra so, Ford added aftermarket exhaust and air box to compensate for the low et.
I had no doubt that he was, even if his gf admitted that her "daddy" lost. Its just i hear "Cobra" and i think fast. Looked up the specs and seen it was well ahead of a stock(ish) LT1. Thats where the questions came in. But thanks for answering the ?'s
What about the 2001's? Were they also just as slow? It makes alot more sense now. I was just wanting another perspective on the whole ordeal.
The '01's were pretty quick. They're supposed to be mid-13 second cars, according to some people. With the IRS, those Cobras are a bitch to launch though. My buddy had a '99 that was cammed and the wheel hop was terrible. The car was nearly impossible to launch. All he did at the track was sit and spin and couldn't even get it to run better than 14's on a well prepped track.
Wow, I beat up on one a few months back. I went and told the elaborate story to a couple of my rustang buddies and they all refused to believe me. I started to question myself "did that really happen" but I swear on my life it did. 3x's actually!
By whats being stated above, the recalls, and overall. Your wrong my friend.
Ok then maybe you can explain how a mid 13 second car is supposed to lose to a mid-low 14 second car. That cobra should put out ~270rwhp and weigh ~3300 lbs, where the vert LT1 is putting out ~250rwhp and weighs 3600+ lbs, its not hard to do the math. You are in the lt1 section where everyone thinks lt1's are built by god, what kind of answers do you expect people to give?

lets not be irrational here speed demon, we KNOW LT1s are built by god
LOL
3 of my friends have had those cars, all atleast boltons, beat all but one, and he later blew his rods and oil all over the ground via the NO2 he beat me on. those motors just dont make enough tq

I believe their the same as the mach1s and I've taken a few 04 mach 1s by a few lenghts.
The 99 and 01 Cobras are a little different than the Machs, I believe. I think the Machs have better gearing. 3.55's instead of the 3.27's that the 99 and 01 Cobras had. I think there's also a few other differences with the engine too. But, like said by cshabby, the 4.6 DOHC in the 99 and 01 Cobras don't make the same torque that the LT1's do.

That's because those motors can't withstand much power. He popped the motor because if you try and push anywhere near 400 horses out of the motor without building it up, you're screwed.
