I had the same question when my appearance was stock. I'll give you the same answer everyone gave me.

"WTF??? Why the hell would anyone want those? They look like hammered dog **** in a paper bag? You're gay and ugly!"

I think they aren't that bad. I recommend scuffing real good with like a scotchbrite pad or SOS and spraying with Duplicolor Silver. Just don't use the "wheel coat" they offer, its not worth using. And do a decent job.

i think salad shooters look good on a clean waxed up, tire shined up bone stock red z28. i wish they looked the same on both sides of the car though, instead of one side leaning towards the front and one side leaning towards the back.

I think they look decent on my car, but the guy that had my car before like curbs, so they're ate to hell.

Now I've got snowflakes...I think they might be worse than salad shooters.

Personally I like the salad shooters better than most of the aftermarket wheels I see. I have chrome shooters, but it's flaking off so I'm considering my options for refinishing or replacing them also. The chrome Z06 wheels are my favorite aftermarket wheels.

Painting is not needed when powder coated. You choose the color of powder coat you want and thats it. You can clear coat it if it makes you feel better.

Mine looked like crap so I just grabbed some spray paint and painted them another color and they turned out good but they aren't the stock color which I assume you want.

I used goof off to clean mine, took the old brake dust right off of them. You can get it at Lowes or Home Depot.

use a good brand of dull aluminum, not silver or grey. then clear coat them w/ a good brand clear coat. clean them 1st or even use air craft stripper(dont get it on you!) even using easy off oven cleaner 1st will do a good job of prepping them. you'll have about 4hrs and $25 in them.

IMO it depends on how picky you are choosing from paint and powdercoat. Ive been having alot of problems with the finish of the powdercoat having an "orange peel" look to it. Doing the right prep work, and getting a nice gun, with net you a great finish on the wheels if you decide to paint them. It will be more expensive, but the finish will turn out better IMO. Powdercoating around this area usually goes for about 40-50 bucks a wheel.

I am looking to refinish mine. I think I am just gonna get some Arctic Silver Duplicolor and then the Duplicolor Clear Coat. I have 8 wheels so I should be able to make one good set. The best way I have found to clean wheels up for a good to it yourself refinish is to get a 90º die grinder and the lightest scotch-brite pad you can get it. I did one wheel for a friend about 6 months ago and it turned out great.
