Default Edelbrock head and valvetrain ?s

I have a set of LT1 edelbrock heads and I belive that the previous owner did not buy longer pushrods as required. +.1 so thats a 7.3? Also the springs say they are good to .600 lift but I seriously doubt that they offer decent performance at that lift. I will be at nearly .575 w/ a 1.6 rocker and want to turn around 6500 rpm.

Is anyone running these heads and if so how hard are you pushing them? The car barely runs now as it was a 1/2 finished project when I got it but they really aren't any better than stock from what I've seen, just benefical to me since I don't have to pull them and do a valve job on 100k miles stockers.

I am up around that lift with the 1.6rr's and haven't had any valve float or other issues. Knock on wood.

looks like we have a very similar set up, how's it run? I'm still bolting stuff on and waiting on a tune.
which rockers are you running and did you go w/ guide plates or just S/A rockers? longer pushrods?

thanks in advance for the info.

Lift is NOT the only important thing. Lobes have different rates of lift and something like the XFI lobes will push a spring into float well below it's rated lift.

It runs pretty strong (380rwhp, 370rwtq) at a pretty low ~6k rpm. I don't even bother spinning it much past that since the power starts to trail off a bit. However, it does run better ET's spinning it to 6500. I am not even full bolt-ons so there may be a few hp left on the table. It's fine but I plan to have these heads ported at some point in the future.

I have the crane gold RR's. I think they are the SA but I forget, it's been a while. I do have longer pushrods as recommended in the edelbrock install documents.

did the edelbrock heads help alot with power? I wanted to get a set of heads sometime and those seem to be the cheapest.... unless you are looking at ported stockers that various people are selling....

they don't flow much better than stockers from what I've read and seen. I bought them with plans to have them ported but I had to get the car done so it never happened.

Be careful with "car runs good" reviews. A HUGE number of guys out there with slow cars but don't realize it. Look for measured results.

I don't think you will find anybody knowledgable saying much good about the Edelbrocks.

the only reason their stuff sells is due to the name.i have not seen 1 componet for an L98,Lt1 or Ls1 that is competitive with others that are out there. hate to bash a company that has been serving the car community for decades but the advanced technology for our cars have yet to come from them, sad to say.

yea its a shame these didnt perform better out of the box but I didn't want to port the stock heads but the car does indeed run strong...not as strong as a well-ported heads car but damn well none-the-less. I would like to see some ported edelbrocks vs stock ported heads. Just curious.
