Default 1994 m6 tune on a 1993 auto computer?

well guys the 6 speed swap is just about done, just got a few issues to work out. the car runs great and has a ton of power, im very happy with the way it performs with the new tranny.

the main thing i need to get working is the speedometer. if you dont know anything about tuning the computer, read no further. if you do, please help

my issue is this. i counted the teeth on the t56 signal gear and it is 17 pulses per driveshaft rev. the auto had 4. to make a long story short, the old chip i made had about 4,000 pulses per mile. in order to convert to the new signal, i need about 43,000 pulses per mile on the chip. well the computer i have wont let it go this high. i entered it in the parameters and plugged the chip in and the speedometer goes haywire and the car wont start. i dont know if the computer was different in 94 or the 93 t56 had closer to 4 teeth on it. from what i can tell, in 1993, both auto and manual f bodies used the same computer, just tuned different. is there anything i can do to correct this or am i going to have to get a universal speedometer signal interface (little black box in between the wire). any ideas, anybody every dealt with this? thanks

The 93 speedo is totally different from the 94+. I think you will need a 94/95 computer.

Its not going to work. The 93' computer is soo much different then all the other years.

Its more like a TPI computer, batch fire, EPROM's etc...

I think you need to get a 4 pulse ring for the T56.

As said the 93 are very different from the 94. The 94 are a flashable from ALDL sequential , MAF system that supported the electronic 4L60E and stuff. The 94 is pretty much only similar in the fact it had the unvented opti.

IMO the 94-5 system is much nicer if you knew that at the start of the swap it may have been a better choice. I do not think it worth the hassle at this stage though.

yea your probly right caprice. i knew the 94 and up ran on MAF and other differences but i didnt know if the computer could accept different parameters for things such as speed pulses per mile. probly have to go with getting an inline box since i cant pull the back of the tranny off to change signal teeth with it in the car

Problem you'll have, other than all that's mentioned, is the 93 doesn't control the speedo via the computer.

Unfortunately no. The problem is not a lack of tuning but the lack of capability to do what you need with that computer.

There is an option for the speedometer fix though...

I'm confused. Since $DA2/$DA3 computers don't have speedometer control, what parameters exactly did you enter? What tuning software are you using?

I had PCMforLess send me a new chip after I did my 6 speed conversion to correct my speedometer. When you fill out your order sheet fill it out as an M6 and in the extra section tell them that you have converted, they'll set you up.

Pre tune my speedo read way fast, now it reads just like normal from the moment I plugged the new chip in. Give it a shot.

ok i will definitly give them a call, thanks a lot for that info. so did you go with a 94 or later m6 into your 93? or was it a 93 into a 93?

I have a 93 T/A ( A4 to M6 swap ) I went with a 94 or 95 computer and harness. The harness was done so I could go to mass-air. This was not a cheap mod!!

from what i have heard speed density handles mods better though. Why did you change ecu? For the real time tuning?

the wiring in my car is extensive as you can imagine and i would not even want to think about converting it to a 94 and up computer lol

I don't know what wiring harness you went with, but Painless ones aren't that expensive. I mean, sure $300-350 is a fair chunk for wiring, but it's not bad IMO.

As much as I want to switch to a EEPROM PCM, I don't have the money to do it. I'd leave the motor setup SD, but I'd want to use a 4L60E with it for line pressure tunablity(I think I just made a new word).
