Default Headers installed now the car redlines like mad...

Anyone know whats up with this? If I floor it the rpm's will go ALL THE WAY up and hit the rev limiter and just sit there and bounce. Anyone know what I need to do to fix this? I installed pacesetter longtubes with the ORY into a loudmouth I catback. I havent installed my front 02 sensors yet, but planned on doing it this weekend. Could this be the problem? I also did the EGR Delete. Any help would be great!

Do your RPM's feel accurate to what they read?

You need to have your shift points and speedo tuned when you install gears. This will fix it.

To the OP: I'm not sure why this would occur from headers though.

I have factory 3.73 from SLP and recently had the car tuned for harder shift points. Maybe this is why its redlining? The rpm's feel pretty much right, just way to high.

I'm gonna put the 02's on this weekend and take it to get re-tuned. Maybe the tuner can figure it out.

No the car drives perfectly fine. When I drive normal and gas it, it's good, but when I "drop the hammer" for lack of better terms, the rpm's surge way up and stay there. If I stop completely and floor it, it's fine. It's only when I floor it from a 20+ mph roll.

It sounds like the tranny is trying to slip, like there is a check ball stuck in the check plate. Is it a auto or a 6 spd.

The hardness of the shifts do not matter, it's the shift points (what mph) that need to be adjusted. The same shift table needs to be scaled when you install different gears.

Example:

This table is the stock WOT shift table for cars that came with 3.23 gears.

This is the table for cars that came with 2.73 gears.

In the second table, the 2-3 shift is not commanded until 93 mph. However, if you say swapped the gears from 2.73 to something higher (numerical), then you are not going to reach 93mph in second gear before redlining. So you have to scale these tables to work for the new gears.

the same thing happened to me when i put 3.73 gears....but then i got the hypertech programmer to fix it,BUT it still does it....maybe its because i dont know what to put when it asks me for shift points??? it says like +2, +3 etc....

holy **** infinitebird... Thanks for clearing that up for me. I never knew there was a reprogramming that needed to happen when gears are swapped...other than for the speedo.

That's because the hypertech blows.

Get a real tune.

For less than the cost of the hypertech you could have easily fixed that problem and gotten more power with a competent tune.

I'm sure you could fix it eventually with the hypertech b/c it does let you adjust shift points, the +1, 2, etc are probably some increment of mph, but you're just guessing really because the hypertech is totally useless for any kind of serious tuning.

Wouldn't running the car with no o2's at WOT cause a problem? Seems to me thats the only thing you've changed if all you've done is install some headers.

No, because the o2s are not used at wot. I'm pretty sure his problem is gears though, since he also said he did 3.73s and I don't see how headers could cause something like this.

No, I didn't do 3.73's. My car came from SLP with them. My car has never been affected by them. I have raced the car plenty and never had any trouble. Now after the headers it's jacked.

oh ok, sorry for the misunderstanding. Well in that case, I'm not really sure why that would be. Lowering your shift point might still fix it though.
