Default which electric water pump?

which would you choose given the following data. Try not to vote for "the one you have that has worked good for you." All brands have proven reliable from what i have read.

55 GPM (3.50" tall, draws 8.0 Amps, 4.6 pounds) - Meizure Heavy Duty
43 GPM (3.00" tall, draws 8.0 Amps, 3.6 pounds) - Meizure
30 GPM (?.??" tall, draws 6.1 Amps, 3.0 pounds) - Summit / CVR
30-37 GPM (2.75" tall, draws 5.8 Amps, pounds? ) - CSR / CSI

Efficiencies:
MHD = 6.875 GPM per amp
M = 5.375 GPM per amp
Summit = 4.91 GPM per amp
CSR = 5.77 GPM per amp
im shying away from the HD because of the modding necessary to fit it.

That leaves me with the question of... is it worth the extra 2.2 amps for another 7-13 GPM?

How signicant is an amp of draw?

Not much to mod to fit the HD, just need to trim the fan shroud a little...takes about 10 min. That is what I put in my car and she will hardly warm up. We'll she how it does a hot day at the track.

Aside from "how well it works for you" how could we answer?

My CSI keeps my car cool 100% of the time. In traffic, on the highway, at the track.. my temps stay nice and cool.

What else do you want to know?

do you have pictures of what is necessary? some people have made it sound more difficult than that.

im just trying to take a more objective approach to this is all. It seems that both CSR and Meziere users are happy with their products.

right now i am leaning toward the CSR/ CSI because it draws the least and everyone seems happy with it. I dont know how significant a couple amps of draw is though  If a couple amps of draw is no big deal, then the HD looks pretty apealing because it is most efficient and flows the most.

hate to dig this from over a month ago but I would like to know the same....how significant is a couple of amps draw? would like to know so I can decide on the csr or meziere. Another question is...is the meziere's 43gps really going to benefit over the csr's 30-37 on a motor that puts out around 400hp at the crank?

a couple of amps for a water pump is hardly anything compared to other common electrical applications like audio. a high power stereo amplifier can sometimes draw 30-50 amps at full power. The stock alt is 140 amp, if your voltage is still good (13-14) while running that will be just fine.

Not sure on the f-body but on the b-body the smallest alternator was 105 amps and the big one 135-140amps. Conversions for amps to HP are all over the 'net and that works out to ballpark 2 HP total at max alternator output. If that is where you guys were going with "how significant is that draw".

the 93 f-bodys had a 124 amp, that later years had 140 amp.

That's goofy - if I've only used one electric water pump, how am I supposed
to reliably vote for something else? I use the Meziere. Look in here for my
"fan shroud" customization:

thanks for the answer... I almost find that hard to believe though because I noticed a difference in quarter mile times when i would accidentally leave my rad fans on. THAT being said, my alternator was near the end of its life at that time, so that might not be relevant data... and i also have no idea how many amps those things draw.

Actually the fans are supposed to tuen off at higher road speeds, think 48mph in the b-body because they pose a RESTRICTION to natural airflow once up to speed. Wonder if that was a piece of the problem.

Like I said wander the internet a little and find a calculator that will convert amps at voltage to HP, double check me, if I am wrong about something I want to know it. That is what seperates me from the others who spend more and go slower. I can admit a mistake and learn from it.

I agree. Since the fans rotate at a constant speed, there is a limit as to the amount of air they will flow. At some point, they will become a restriction to air flow, when the rate of flow exceeds the capacity of the fan blades.

AFA horsepower consumed, use Ohm's Law:
P = E * I, where
E - stands for voltage, the unit is the Volt.
I - stands for current, the unit is the Amp.
P - stands for power, the unit is the Watt.

Then use a conversion application, such as http://www.onlineconversion.com/power.htm
to convert from watts to horsepower.

Don't know if this helps or not but I just bought a 97' SS. It has a CSR pump on it, and it runs cool all the time, traffic or driving. Anyone happen to know if the SS's got them stock or if mine was added on there?

You're asking if the SS has an electric water pump (CSR) installed from the factory?
I've never heard of such a thing - mechanical is much more reliable and is actually
cheaper to produce, so naturally, it is an aftermarket bolt-on.

that is correct, however i have an override switch. I have my fans running on high in the staging lane to stay as cool as possible and then shut them off before i make my pass. Let me put it this way... one run i realized i forgot to turn them off, flicked the switch, and immediately FELT more horse power. But like i said, it wasnt long after that i realized the bearings in my alternator were nearing their end. (i just happened to have the belt off and notice it squeaked)

I think i am going to go with the CSR for now because i can get it on sale. If i have any issues with cooling I know i can sell it and upgrade to the mezeire HD without much difficulty.

Good thread, thanks to everyone that contributed.
