So if that sensor has nothing to do with it then can my last resort just be either the EGR or MAF? When it broke down no codes popped up for the opti, just the random missfire, EGR, and MAF. I forgot to add he said that that sensor can cause those codes to pop up. Im really not familiar with these LT1 engines yet so excuse me if I sound noobish, cuz I kinda am.

It could cause the code for misfires, that's the only one of those three though. The only purpose of the crank position sensor is to detect misfires.

If you are not getting spark then it is either the plugs, wires, coil, icm, opti, or pcm/wiring.

EGR or MAF could mess up fueling, but not spark.

He tested the fuel pressure when it broke down, so it's getting fuel. So I just ordered a new OEM opti-spark. Guy at summit told us that the aftermarket distributors are good for racing but not for reliability. So it should be here tommorow and put on, I'll let ya'll know if it fixes it or not. Thanks for all the feeback guys.

Well, fuel pressure is not the only consideration. If the MAF is bad for example it could be running horribly lean or rich, that could cause misfires. So even if the fuel pressure is fine it could be getting the wrong amount of fuel.

Is it possible for the MAF to cause only one cylinder to misfire? I know that the first day I looked at the car, he cranked it up and there was a huge cloud of black smoke, but went away after about 30 seconds. It has smoked black just a few times, I guess that explains that lol.

Alright, well after a good $1200 bucks in the hole, the car is finally back to normal status. We replaced the optispark. It had a re manufactured opti on it, the inside had plenty of green corrosion. We think that fixed the shutting off problem. But still got a code for the MAF and EGR. Put a new MAF sensor, knocked that code out. Had the EGR system flushed but the code still popped up. We changed the solenoid and that was it. The EGR was actually causing the misfire on cylinder one. I ended up leaving the waterpump that was on it. The guy at summit said that CSR electric waterpumps don't wear as quickly as mechanical ones do, so we left it. I've put 117 miles on it and it's doing great. Used to get about 10 miles before it started acting up.
