So if you want your car (I dont car LT1, LSX or whatever) to run cooler your going to want a thermostat as well as turning your fans on sooner . Would you feel better if I put IMO after that statement .
Who gives a flying F if the fans turn on before the thermostat is open. The thermostat's job is to make sure the motor gets to a certain temp by holding off coolant flow till the temp of the stat is reached. Fans being on WILL NOT AFFECT this!!! As you know.

Running the fans sooner than stock WILL make the car run cooler because these cars run over 200 stock, yet the thermostat is 180. So just turning on the fans at a sooner temp WILL MAKE THE CAR RUN COOLER!!! Just never cooler than what the stat is. And I see no reason to run the car under 180*.

I run my fans on from key on. It just rides the thermostat (180). Car has NEVER gave me any troubles since I have done this (couple years back). I don't have to mess with thermostats or settings of when the fans come on (my fans are not stock of course so i can't anyways). They just come on and keep the car to 180-185*

Your making it WAY more complicated than it really is.

That is what I said . And if the fans turn on sooner why do the LT1's run at such high temps when going down the highway when the fans are not even a factor ?I will tell you guys what if all you want me to say is that if you turn your fans on sooner than it will stay closer to 200 than 220 than yes . But why not put in a 160 and turn on the fans sooner and be done with it. IMO

A few simple reasons come to mind: Because you can, because it's dirt cheap-to free, because 20F less by just having fans running is peace of mind, less prone to pre-ig, and mother of them all: fear of getting the opti even remotely wet

You could just drain the radiator and pull the plug on the side of the block to drain the coolant. What the WD40 for.

I take it you don't know what WD-40 stands for? Water Distribution, 40 is just the 40th try that the maker decided it was how he wanted it. Spray the opti with it before you wash the engine bay and it'll help keep the opti dry. Now, hose the opti down and it won't help, but that's not something anyone of us (except maybe That_guy) would do lol.

You can drain the radiator and pull a plug but unless you use a vacuum on the lower hose (not a bad idea now that I think about it), there's bound to be some water still around to leak out. My opti already has 96K on it and I plan for it to last as long as it can. So if it takes me being **** while changing a TStat, so be it lol

Just remember, the fans won't turn on, with a stock tune, till around 225-230F. So while you might not think they're working, they probably are If you want to really make sure, just unplug an important sensor (I suggest the EGR solenoid, driver side of the motor). Start the car and wait a few seconds, the SES light will pop on and then the fans will both kick in as a safety precaution.
