But I bet you would enjoy your car alot more.

Thanks for all the replies, i think i will do the 6speed swap.

O yeah, i have had the car for 6 years, i would really hate to part with it just cause its not a 6 speed.
Put the Motive 3.90 or 4.10 in then if you are going with the M6

Auto or M6 is up to you. Ive owned both. I love my 6speed and I really hate driving an automatic. And I drive in a lot of traffic. Sometimes I get tired of having to row through all the gears, but very rarely. I think M6 overall just makes the car and driving experience a ton more enjoyable... and you just have more control. Not to mention the cool factor

I think you'd be better off selling yours and buying an M6 though. But if you're dead set on not selling the car, and have plenty of cash to spend...then I guess go for it.

I DD my 6 speed and love it, i'd have it no other way, when i was looking to buy a Z (back when i had my ol' 3.4) i drove both and theres no comparison. 6 speed is surely more fun on the street.
plus having 6 gears... is just.. well cool.

You some people can actually DRIVE a car. But I guess that's just dangerous lolol. No wonder everyone likes A4s, they can only handle holding the wheel straight and 2 pedals ahahahaha.

There are these things called 'turns' and I'd really like to watch a stalled a4 try and rip up some twisties, downshifting and all lol.

You must need to dial in your suspention if your Z is getting out of control. I have a A4 built with full UMI and Strano suspention and my ***** on rails..oh and also "RSbeast" if you want to see a A4 mash around twisties come follow me through some back roads..I will hang with any M6!

I have no problems on twisties either. Any Stalled A4 will suck at a SCCA Course..there usually isn't a paved road that is that tight though.

6 speeds seem to blow the rearend up quicker. I'd love to do the swap myself, but after getting all the parts, putting em in, drilling/cutting the firewall/trans tunnel, wiring/tuning (not sure if thats an issue). iIs not just buying the trans, get a new clutch, master cylinder, slave cylinder, pedals, clutch line, clutch, flywheel, shifter, maybe a crossmember (not sure). It just seems so much easier to do a stall and call it done, I'll probably do a trans cooler too.

man I laughed pretty hard when I read this

well I am a manual trans kinda of guy, and I too have a biased opinion, so I say go for it, but only like said earlier, if you get it cheap and really like that car.

Fun factor? Well, I'd say driving a SBC car will always be fun, but most say that the manual is cool. The only knock I have on the stick is how much of a pita it is to drive in rush hour, or hilly areas. Although you're not looking for racing arguments, hands down there is nothing more consistant than an A4, period. However, having a stick seems to really up the resale value, should you ever need to get rid of it (God forbid). People seem to be willing to pay about $2k more for an M6 car than an A4 car.

If you have lots of money and $2,000 is pocket change, then go for it.

I had a 94 Z28 A4, a 99 T/A M6, and now a 96 Z28 M6...and I would say, yes the M6 is more fun to drive at times, but an auto can be just as fun IMO, and more driver friendly for daily driving..

I LOVE my M6 and going through the gears, the fun factor, the driver control/involvement, but I wouldn't spend $2,000 for a swap if my car was an auto, unless that was a small amount of money to me..

But if it is something you really want, then do it..nobody here can make that decision for you, as everyone has a personal preference and opinion.

BTW: My current car was originally an automatic..I just got lucky with the last owner converting it to a M6 when he had it

These cars are just more fun with a 6 speed. Yes I have driven both and LOVE my M6 more than the A4 that I drove. Besides, Real men need three pedals two drive. Most women only need two.

WOW how ironic. At the track stalled automatics do the exact same thing to 6-speeds

I guess what goes around really does come around

OP I would go 6 speed since you don't hit the track. But I would consider taking the $2,000 and using that as a down payment on a 6 speed car. Good chance to upgrade to an LS1 M6 if that was anything you had any interest in.

Good luck with whatever you do.
