6-speed vs auto
The biggest thing I have come down to is the driveability. I can bust it loose very quickly on the street with the Auto..it would be even quicker with the 6spd. I'm at a different power level..but still the Auto makes it alot more street friendly.
O yeah, i have had the car for 6 years, i would really hate to part with it just cause its not a 6 speed.

I think you'd be better off selling yours and buying an M6 though. But if you're dead set on not selling the car, and have plenty of cash to spend...then I guess go for it.

plus having 6 gears... is just.. well cool.

You some people can actually DRIVE a car. But I guess that's just dangerous lolol. No wonder everyone likes A4s, they can only handle holding the wheel straight and 2 pedals ahahahaha.
There are these things called 'turns' and I'd really like to watch a stalled a4 try and rip up some twisties, downshifting and all lol.

and another thing to consider....autos when they spin and go crazy all you have to do is steer....if you get outa control you dont have to put it in neutral and push in the clutch ect...6 speeds make things more cimplicated and are a lot more dangerous imo

man I laughed pretty hard when I read this
well I am a manual trans kinda of guy, and I too have a biased opinion, so I say go for it, but only like said earlier, if you get it cheap and really like that car.
I had a 94 Z28 A4, a 99 T/A M6, and now a 96 Z28 M6...and I would say, yes the M6 is more fun to drive at times, but an auto can be just as fun IMO, and more driver friendly for daily driving..
I LOVE my M6 and going through the gears, the fun factor, the driver control/involvement, but I wouldn't spend $2,000 for a swap if my car was an auto, unless that was a small amount of money to me..
But if it is something you really want, then do it..nobody here can make that decision for you, as everyone has a personal preference and opinion.
BTW: My current car was originally an automatic..I just got lucky with the last owner converting it to a M6 when he had it

I guess what goes around really does come around

OP I would go 6 speed since you don't hit the track. But I would consider taking the $2,000 and using that as a down payment on a 6 speed car. Good chance to upgrade to an LS1 M6 if that was anything you had any interest in.
Good luck with whatever you do.
