Yep, 2.73s belong ONLY in the V6 models, that's just retarded for a V8 -_- If you have 2.73s though you can't just buy someone's old 3.23s or 3.42s, different carrier between the two. Fun huh? They eff you with low *** gears, and eff you more if you want to upgrade ^_^

Just get a Powerglide and some 6.17s!! (Yes, 6.17, but PROBABLY not in a 10bolt lol GL3 : AXLE REAR, 6.17 RATIO)

I have the 3.42's in my DD A4 and @ 81mph I'm running 2800 RPM. With my 2.73's I was running 2000 RPM's @ 80 MPH. Thats just a FYI. If you was to go to 3.73's I'd probably say it would be around 3000 to 3200 ish RPM's. 3.42's are awesome and do offer a great upgrade in performance. But 3.23's are also good for both gas mileage and performance. Kinda the best of both worlds, but definentaly leaving power out on the table. Good Luck with your choice.

I have 3.73 gears in my A4 and is a daily highway driver. I feel it's the perfect all around gear. And my mileage didn't suffer that much either.

Anything helps..thanks
THE LT1 A4 1995 STOCK USE THE 2.73
AND THE LT1 M5 STOCK USE 3.42

3.73's for the win!!! I have a set in the 10 bolt and get decent mpg and the rpm at 75ish - 80ish is at 2500... Plus it'll put a grin on your face and a set of nuts in your car.. haha

Yeah I wish I had an M6! Their alot more fun IMO. Not to mention you can get alot better gas mileage with them.
Hell my 96 V6 Camaro got 30-32 MPg on the high way with 3.23's before the clutch went out. If it were a TA or Z-28 I'd guess about 20-25 MPG...
My A4 only gets 13 MPG Max. On highway/Street combined.

Nice looking car BTW

Would you recomend 3.73 if you plan to run on a 125 nitrous hit.

Thanks

I think 373's are an all around good gear, but I ran into a guy who loves to spray his car and he wouldn't gear higher than 342's.. I think he just wanted a high trap speed and was spraying the **** out of it..

With my LS1 T/A M6 with the stock 3.42 gears I ussually got about 26-28mpg on the highway, with a best of 31mpg, keep in mind this was on a 400+ mile interstate trip with the cruise control set the entire time at 70mph..

With my LT1 Z28 M6 with 3.73's I get about 24-26mpg on the highway, with a best of 29mpg on one of my long trips.

So Damn I feel bad for you..13mpg sucks

Thanks man. With my 4.10s the last time I checked my combined mileage I was getting 23 mpg overall but that was w/ an exhaust leak bcs my header bolt were backed out. I'm thinking now I'm getting around 25-26. When I was stock w/ 3.42 i was getting around 27 mpg

Seems like everyone with the A4 is running different rpm's at close to the same speeds. Guess you will just have to see how them 373's run for ya. Never heard anything bad about them. I'm putting mine in this next week.
