This is where I clearanced mine. Just put a small glob of white lithium grease on the chain, hold the timing cover in place, and rotate the engine over twice by hand. When you pull the timing cover, you'll see where the grease rubbed off.
A pneumatic die-grinder makes pretty quick work of it, though you could feasibly do it with a dremel. I took off more than I needed -- just got rid of the middle embossed section.
