Default Titanium Retainers or Steel?

I have a new cam motions custom cam and a set of their 723030 springs. These springs don't come with retainers and I've been doing some brief research and it appears that CompCams part# 730 titaniums will be the right diameters for this dual spring. But, at $130 they represent almost $100 price increase over their steel counterparts. Since I'm running primary street and weekend racing. Are these Titanium overkill?
The springs have a seat pressure of 130#.
My cam is a hyd roller:
Dur @ .050 232 INT 241 EXH
Lift .564 INT .595 EXH
112 LSA
Intake Centerline 108
Any recommendations of Titanium over steel retainers for my application?
Thanks,
Dave

I'd recommend the 730's because of the exhaust lift and rpm capabilities of that cam. You didn't mention the cu. in. of the engine, but it'll make peak power at 6500 in a 396 with good heads. A couple other things to be aware of.... the 730's will give you .050" additional installed height over the 740's, so make sure you shim accordingly. If you use Crane or GM self aligning rockers, they will not clear the 730's without modification.

Wow... good info JoeRacer.
My LT1 is a 355, forged piston/6" H-Beam Rod, stock crank, balanced rotating assembly. I'm installing some pro ported Stage II level LT1 Castings (LT4 valve size stainless steel). The porter said he got over 280 on the intakes at .550. Had one cylinder flowed at GTP for a back up and it shows 26x at .550. All benches can flow different so I'm not concerned about any disparity.
I've found some used 730s on the national Fbody list for $70. But from what you're saying if I get those, I'll need to shim them (as the seller of the 730's indicated also) and I'll need to clearance my GM LT4 1.6 Roller rockers. Do you have a picture somewhere of the area on the rocker arms where I'll need to clearance them for the 730's? Thanks alot man!

Just a word of caution about GTP flow #s- Their flowbench is extremely misleading. Craig is a very knowledgable (and very friendly) guy. However, I've witnessed 3 sets of GTP LT1 heads that barely made mid 250s. According to GTP, those heads were supposed to flow 280s.

If its possible, I'd have someone else flow teh heads to get a broader picture, though its likely GTP flowed the heads unbiased (while they noramlly fluff the numbers on their own heads).

Good luck - sounds like your car is already quick! Were you using these heads with your old combo?
