Default Top Speed

I know this has probably been discussed quite a few times over the years. But I've always been curious to what it would take HP wise to pull through your 6th gear. Or if its even possible? Whats the fastest top speed any of you guys have achieved through your lt1 setup?

I had a Hotcam kit and some other things..A4 with 3.73's and it put down 335/335 to the Wheels. I managed to pull an estimated 165+mph out of a run one time..wouldn't try it again though.

I know with my new setup give me a M6 it would be ****** insane..150mph comes up really fast, and that's with the Auto..

6th gear runs to approximately 260 mph, you should never see that speed no matter the power.

but your power starts to die after you hit 6th gear. thats why everybody does their top speed runs in 5th gear

and ive only got a few weeks left till i hit my top speed. if i max the speedo out...then im happy.

I've had my stock 6 speed 96 Trans am convertible with the top down to 143mph in sixth gear and still had a little peddle left.

I've been curious, whats the drop gear wise between 5th and 6th? I know the faster you want to go, its a square equation right? I know that the car hits 150 way too easy, but once you move that shift lever that last time, not much is happening, then again I haven't ever stayed in it much longer to see if that tach needle will move or not in 6th.

I had mine to 148 mph in 6th gear. Buts thats with 4.11's. I had more rpms but didnt want to push it. At that time all I had was the 4.11's, CAI, 52mm TB, no cats, stock manifolds and stock cat back.

That sounds pretty sick, what were you pushing RPM wise? I've had mine up to 150ish in 5th before, but I didnt really like the thought of pushing that many RPMs. That was when the car only had CAI and exhaust. The reason for asking is I was just about to order my PCM Forless tune for the new setup and noticed you could have the Speed Limiter completely removed. I wasnt sure if there would really be an advantage in removing it or not since you cant really pull through 6th that easily?

Id say I hit 170+ in my old 97 M6 with all the bolt ons and hotcam kit. Dont remember what the Rs were I was to busy watching the road. The car was still pulling when i let off and it never hit the rev limiter. Very scary. Cars that look like a spec way down the Hwy come up way too fast.

Best Ive had the new one is around 130 in 5th and it gets there fast.

maybe if one of you guys has a gps unit you could find out how fast you're really going after you've pegged the speedo.
