i have a full msd system on my car, minus the opti that is stock. BUT, it is not the original. the msd system destroyed my original opti and I had to get it replaced. I can't prove it was the msd but very shortly after the install it crapped out.
i had a friend of my dad's work on it and he tried blaming the msd system and replaced all of it with stock ignition parts and it ran worse. turns out it was the opti like I told him in the first place.
long story short on a low mileage opti i would not worry

ran my stock opti on a 6al for a few thousand miles before i did the cam install and changed to the msd cap and rotor. the stock pieces looked good when i pulled them other than only one plastic rivet left and loose. lol!

I just put a 6al in my 94 caprice w/ the stock opti and it took the opti out in about 600 miles. But the car does have 136k so still not sure if the msd just did it in or just having that many miles did.

You know when folks ask a question like this I think the first response should be someone asking you why you want to put a box on the car atall???
The stock ignition really doesn't need any help until the car is pretty substantially modded. There are features that can come in handy when doing certain mods but if you are thinking of "improving the spark for efficiency" or the like then you are wrong and about to waste money.

The motor has been modd with a 306 com cam.1.6rocker.58mmTB,intake.headers,push rods.cc value springs.full MSD set up,ported stock heads,3in MAS,LT4 SCM.so my motor is not stock. This is why I ask if I can run a ignition box on a stock opit.
