That's what I hear. It seems that the stock opti cap/rotor tend to frown upon the MSD OUTPUT.

i have a full msd system on my car, minus the opti that is stock. BUT, it is not the original. the msd system destroyed my original opti and I had to get it replaced. I can't prove it was the msd but very shortly after the install it crapped out.

i had a friend of my dad's work on it and he tried blaming the msd system and replaced all of it with stock ignition parts and it ran worse. turns out it was the opti like I told him in the first place.

long story short on a low mileage opti i would not worry

My 94 still has the OEM/STOCK opti on the car, and has been running a MSD Digital 6 and a big MSD coil for over 6 years.

I have had absolutley zero opti related issues, maybe mine is a freak.

I just put a 6al in my 94 caprice w/ the stock opti and it took the opti out in about 600 miles. But the car does have 136k so still not sure if the msd just did it in or just having that many miles did.

I installed the 6al box on my T/A with 1yr old opti and it only lasted two weeks. Maybe it was a defective opti???

You know when folks ask a question like this I think the first response should be someone asking you why you want to put a box on the car atall???

The stock ignition really doesn't need any help until the car is pretty substantially modded. There are features that can come in handy when doing certain mods but if you are thinking of "improving the spark for efficiency" or the like then you are wrong and about to waste money.

This is true, but I did to my car because; the MSD 6/digital 6 are relatively cheap, I learned some things about the ignition system of my car ( replaced wires plugs) and I enjoy modding my car Art

The motor has been modd with a 306 com cam.1.6rocker.58mmTB,intake.headers,push rods.cc value springs.full MSD set up,ported stock heads,3in MAS,LT4 SCM.so my motor is not stock. This is why I ask if I can run a ignition box on a stock opit.

Same here, 6A box and upgraded coil for years. I switched to the 685 box only because I added nitrous and needed more features. MSD 6A is for sale if your interested.

Have yet to see any concrete evidence that an ignition box destroys the opti.

Every stock cap that I have personally seen showed signs of arcing when it was run with an ignition box. I don't know if it would have still showed the signs of arcing without an ignition box but I thought i'de just throw that out there.
