Default The ol' LT1 impressed me today!

I met up with a buddy of mine that drives a 04 M6 GTO.... It has the exhaust chopped off right before the axles with two bullets. I have a 96 Z28 M6 with CAI and a catback... Talked him into running me down the hwy...
We went from a 2nd gear rolls and we went through the end of 4th...
By the top of 4th gear I was at his rear bumper and he stopped pulling me when I hit 4th!
I lost, but I was happy with my ol' LT1...

Nope, factory ratings for GTO's are on the money....torque management, a wobbly IRS suspension, a long throw shifter skinny 245 tires, and being 3800lbs hinder their performance. An 04 LS1 GTO is a good race with a LT1 F-bod(similar setup)

I was happy with the race, considering I lost...
I think I could run an Auto GTO down....

AND the driver of the GTO weighed about 130lbs(small guy)
and I weight about 175lbs WITH a 150lbs passenger...

honestly it really takes a cam and full bolt ons to wake up the LT1, then they are no longer a slouch, I took mine for an open header run down the street after all the mods (sig) and it was an absolutely unbelievable difference from bone stock

I can't wait to take mine (97 6sp.) out this weekend after a PS LT install with ory & no cats , these LT1's are good engines, there just so choked up with emissions & crappy exhaust, even with the manifolds, it had a BB feel on the top end, not bad for a SB.

The LS1 may have been touched by God but the LT1 was designed by the devil!

I raced an M6 '04 a few times in my car. At the time I my mods were 4.10s, cold air intake, tune, 1.6 rockers, and a 3 angle valve job on the heads. Totally stock exhaust. I think the GTO was stock except for some kind of exhaust. First we raced from about a 50mph roll and I walked him pretty good. We raced a couple more times from a slower speed, like ~30mph, each time the outcome was the same. He couldn't keep up. edit: My best time at the track with those mods was 13.30 @ 107mph so my car ran pretty good.

the weight of your passenger was enough to cause you to lose, you would have won if you were alone in the car.
