Gm 847 How high would i have to spin this cam, i am saving for my new setup which is ported stock heads and a cam. I like the 847 but i dont want to spin it past 6500. would it be pointless to get then ?
On stock heads expect to rev it upwards of 6700-6800 and with better flowing heads that would only go up. When adding heads or porting them the powerband goes up so you actually need to focus more on smaller cams with that kind of rpm limit. With ported stock heads you are gonna have to run a cam with a 22x duration on the intake to be able to be at a 6500 shift point so the 847 is definelty out of your range. To be under 6500 as in 6300 or so you need to go pretty tame on the cam because like I said the heads will require it to be revved higher than with stock untouched heads.
From what I have seen you have to spin it closer to 7k with stock heads like stealth said.
A lot of people get this cam but either chuck opti's at the high RPM's or refuse to spin it that high and stay out the top of the cams power band, in other words, a lot of people waste their money.
