IMHO 3" is a waste of time unless your putting down over 700rwhp, dual 2.5s is pleanty. If you go too big you will loose some grunt down low, go too small and you will loose the pull up top. 2.5s is the perfect inbetween setup. Plus if its done right you will have just as much or more ground clearence than stock, with the exception of the LTs of course.

And to have a shop do it you will probably be looking at close to $700 I'd say. And if they do it it won't be mandrel bent, unless your a lucky one who has a shop close by that has a mandrel bender. Why not look into the bassani true dual setup? Its about $800 and will bolt right in? Just a thought

And BTW I have 2.5" true duals, X pipe and dynomax bullets dumped at the axle, made by me with mandrel bends. Sounds absolutely badass, nothing around here comes to sounding like it but its getting changed out for a 1 off CME setup down the road

Alright I'm done rambling, and just so everryone knows I'm not trying to prove anyyone wrong are start a big argurement

I've heard 2.5" are good to 500 rwhp or so, but not much more than that. That would suit my needs for a long time, I just didn't want to have to do exhaust twice.

$700-800 is a lot, if it's that much then forget out the back setup

Am I correct in saying not much custom work is needed for a dumped setup? (probably half the cost of out the back)

go for 2.5" for easier routing out the back 3" is bigger than necessary but most people (including me) do 3" dumped before the axle

My 3" dual exhaust was cheaper than a y-pipe into a catback. Flows better, looks better, sounds better.

I just did my 2.5" dumped x pipe setup this past weekend. I love the sound its awesome, I vote 2.5" unless you plan on 500hp someday.. 2.5" true duals can handle a hell of alot of hp and will gain you a tiny bit more ground clearence, and believe me even a 1/4" helps. get a universal kit from jegs/summit, Mine have built in cutouts, I LOVE the sound its deffinitely better than any catback I have ever heard without a doubt.
