Default exhaust leak issue

so one of my friends decided to be an asshat and sawzall my exhaust behind the collectors on both sides of the y-pipe. for a while i had bandclamps, and still heard a leak. got the cuts welded today.. and i STILL hear a leak. the weld is good... so is it leaking from somewhere else? the header bolts are tight.. im sort of at a loss here.

well...the only thing i could tell you is cold start the car and run your hand next to the pipe and see if you feel some leaks...

I know someone who had a ticking exhaust leak she couldn't track down after weeks and it turned out to be the egr tube was leaking because it had gotten bent up during header install..

gets louder under load, sounds like an air escaping sound. checked the header gaskets again, still good. im going to tighten them more. maybe it'll help.

i dont know about that, but ive heard an LT1 with 1.6 RRs on idle in person and it ticked like a bad header gasket.

damn it. this is such a weird sound and it doesnt make sense for it to be a bad header gasket.

open the hood and have someone start the car in an enclosed space (closed garage) and keep your head above each header and see if you smell the raw catless smell of the exhaust before the tailpipes fill it. thatll be the easiest way of finding a header gasket leak.

I have the same problem and its freaken annoying. I checked everything and no idea, it sounds so much like a little exhaust leak under load but I cant trace it. I'm pulling the LT's out for the heads so Im going to make certain that everything goes together perfect and then see what happens. My 1.6's are noisy at idle but I cant imagine they would sound like a leak under load.
