Default Need help selecting a top end package

Hey guys, Im rebuilding my 96 SS this summer and was looking at this...

http://www.victoryracingengines.com/...TX&BLOCK=SHORT

if you scroll down to the bottom im looking at the victory lane 383 short block.

My plans are to throw some boost at the motor via a heavily modified (read: drastically improved) STS kit and was wondering what you all thought of that setup, is that overkill?

Also, where would you all reccomend that I look at for a top end package? I know that AI is popular around here....

thanks in advance!

Have you talked to any local machine shops? Reason being I'd much rather build a relationship with a local engine builder that you can get ahold of and talk directly to rather than be put on hold and have to talk to someone who has absolutely no clue and doesn't give a "Horton Hears a Who" about your block after it has been shipped.
And yes as far as heads/cam packages go it would seem AI is not a bad choice.

AI, Lloyd Elliot, Port Pros, Lingenfelter, Craig Galant, etc....Talk to companies and YOU make the decision of who you trust. Advanced Induction and Lloyd are the most popular, and having talked to both, Lloyd got my business.

Im not sure I understand what you meant? you have a shortblock from who? I had looked at Golen but had heard even worse things about them than VRE and their top of the line 383 short block claims to only support 750 horses and doesnt seem to use the same quality of materials as VRE. Could you clarify what you meant?

I am a little older than most of you and have learned the hard way to look for VALUE not price because in the long run buying the good value is usually the least expensive way to go, going "cheap" often costs much more in the longrun.

I thought this was interesting, forum is intermittent now so if it doesn't work try again later.

I totally agree on the value aspect which is why I was leaning towards VRE. For a little more money you get way better internals. ive tried hitting a couple of those impalassforum links around this forum and they never seem to work...I just assumed it no longer exhisted.

That forum has some reliability issues and older links went dead when the whole forum was updated last year, it is back up at the moment so hurry up and try the one I posted today.

wow...they told him it was a Callies and gave him Eagle? classy operation....yeah, im just about set on that VRE package unless anyone thinks thats too much engine for my application or has a better motor that I should be looking at. Also, now that I have officially hijacked my own thread, lets get back to what kind of top end package I should be looking at...AI, LE, .........?

YES! One that actually has a builder who knows all about LTx/LSx engines and has built them for several years. The one who built my short block in fact. They aren't necessarily in VA, but rather Burtonsville, MD which isn't too far from NOVA:

Burtonsville Machine
(301) 490-3131

They have an excellent reputation with the Pro Stock people all along the eastern seaboard. They may be a little more expensive than other shops, but hands down I would rather pay for someone who is familiar w/ the LTx engine.
