Default Obd ?

Hey there I'm new to the whole LT1 car thing, Last Sunday I picked up a completely bone stock 1995 M6 Z28 coupe with 121,XXX. I bought the car and it is mint for 4,200. The coolent was mixed but flushed and the Low water lightcomes on, I figured out that problem, Now the CEL comes on then goes off. I went to Shucks and Autozone and the OBD 2 probes plug in but will not comunicate with the car. Is there a way to get the car to give blink codes? I bought a Haynes book witch is worthless. Is there any parts that I should be concidering to replace soon, besides the clutch?

Aren't 95's an OBD1? I heard Autozone tends to make that mistake.

And I'm guessing by CEL that you mean the SES light. And you can only blink codes from 93's.

95s are OBD1 but with a OBD2 port(I believe) thats why it plugged it but no communication...There is a type of key that you plug in and it will flash so many times...Autozone actually had the key...

yea, 95's are OBD1 with an OBD2 plug....makes no sense if you ask me, but a buddy of mine has a scanner that has the option to use an OBD2 plug and still read OBD1....need to see if you can find someone that can do the same function....

I did mean the SES light, It does have the Obd 2 port for sure. I will try to have autozone scan it one more time. What failures should I start worrying about at this mileage?

Around the 100,000 mark seems to be around the time alot of transmissions and engines need rebuilt.

When you go to AutoZone I've heard they will tell you they can't do it, but just explain exactly what they need to do, and normally they can figure it out. Some people are just lazy.

Your car sounds like mine when I bought it last year. If your low coolant light is on and you have coolant, it's most likely the sensor needs replaced. If your fans come on then go off along with the SES light, check your air pump fuse. Mine was blown due to a seized air pump. Fans cut on in a "protect mode" when the SES is tripped from what I understand.

There is a way to jumper the connections, that info is at shoebox's site as well as most anything else you may need. HTH's

Try advance auto or O'Reilleys if you have them in your area as Autozone is a joke and they don't tend to know SH*T. It is true that most places however are very confused about the OBD2 port with an OBDI computer and don't have the proper plug for the OBDI scanner. My suggestion, is if you are going to keep the car for a while then just buy a AKM cable and download Tunercat to check the codes yourself. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll shoot you some links.

FYI - I believe you cannot jumper connections on a 95' as the code flash was only available on the 93'?

I looked over there and it's to jumper to an OBD1 reader...? Maybe I misunderstood though. I swear I'm gonna bid on a scan tool, costs a fortune to scan OBD1 around here.
