Default ANOTHER fried Opti...

As some of you know, I replaced my opti, and waterpump this weekend. I had a DTC code 16 last week (lo-res fail). Replaced the opti as suggested, and voila, problem solved.

The opti that was in the car was a reman unit purchased at my local auto parts store. Specifically, it's manufactured by "Auto Line products LTD." I had a MSD Cap and rotor kit on it. This unit lasted roughly 1500 miles, and failed.

I replaced the unit with the exact same set up. I also replaced my WP as it was leaking, and I felt it was the cause of the previous Opti's failure.

Driving along this evening, and the car dies out, just as it did last week. Turns over, but no go. I scanned it, and again, got the Lo-Res Fail DTC code, and also got code 77, Fan 1 fail. I've got a manual switch for my fans. I turned them on, and they both worked fine.

My question is, why am I going through Opti's like this? This Opti set up had less than 50 miles on it, and it's crapped out already!?!?!?!

I need to know before I go ahead, and replace this again. it's too much time wasted to go about it the wrong way again.

Would the issue be the reman core is not functioning properly with the MSD cap and rotor?

Keep in mind, I sealed the seams of the opti, and the only water it was exposed to was a car-wash, where it performed fine. So I don't think this is due to water damage.

Your thoughts???

Have you checked the opti harness/optical sensor connection for corrosion.
That has been a common problem with my opti failures

Crappy re-man opti. Get a new one from GMPP and you won't have these kinds of problems. And whatever you do try not to get it wet.

yea, for starters your putting the shitty remans in your car... bad investment on your part.. get a new GM piece... no MSD cap and rotor... just a new factory opti and seal it good and you will have no problems.. if its vented get the new vent line for it and check your opti harness to make sure its good as well... they arent junk... it just depends on how well they are maintained..

Yeah, I checked all my connections when I replaced the last opti. They all checked out OK.

Removed the failed Opti today, and lets just say the evidence of opti failure is pretty obvious... The dowel pin that I used wasn't the stock unit. It actually came as part of the reman Opti core, and it was not removable. This dowel pin was too long, and the damage as a result is insane!

My GM Opti is on it's way...

Lesson learned: Don't use shitty reman parts.

Keep in mind, this much damage occured in less than 40 miles!

As long as some part is faulty to begin with, it might not even take a 1/4
mile to reveal its weakness. I've actually had a rotor pierce the cap just
after starting it up (defective rotor hold-down screw threads). A very
freaky thing to see a rotor sticking out through the side of a rotor.
