There is no best cam it depends on many different variables that only you can answer. Heres an example, are emissions a concern? How high are you willing to rev the motor? What gearing do you have? etc. etc. Do not listen to anyones recommendation until all of those factors and more are out on the table. If you want the best cam for that setup and dont plan to vastly change it then going custom is the way to go without doubt. Perhaps talk to someone who custom grinds cams for our cars such as Advanced Induction and they will be able to offer the answers you are looking for. Theres are a couple other custom grinders out there, do a search and you will find them.

If you dont want to rev past 6300 then you really shouldnt run a cam any larger in duration than the hot cam which you already have. I would go custom because I am sure you could get a cam that would make around another 15rwp/tq over the hot cam but be extremely close in size so you could not have to rev past 6300.

If you don't mind me watching I would like to know how different the recommendation would be for someone with basically the same thing (I have some minor porting on my LT4 heads and Comp Cam Hyd Roller Lifter) however I have the T56 and stock gearing in a Z28. I have the hotcam as I believe I read the thread starter does. I do not mind going to 6400rpm but for now I think thats where I want to be.

Do not mean to hi-jack just thought I would watch this thread as well and see if there was any difference.

Thanks

so u if i go with a larger cam i will have to spin the motor to higher rpm?If i change the cam i will see no power gain if i don't spin the motor past 6300?

Yes. More Duration=More RPM. And remember you need to shift it a few hundred rpm after peak to get the most out of it. A cam any larger in duration to yours will really need to be shifted past 6300. I shifted my 224/230 at around 6400-6500 on stock LT1 heads and with better flowing stock LT4 heads that would go up a tad. If you go with a larger cam and you dont spin the cam past 6300 the car will actually be slower. Just because a cam is large doesn't mean anything its the power under the curve that you want and where you shift it means everything. If you under shift a large cam the car will not be at its full potential and will be slower than a car shifting at the same rpm with a smaller cam thats being maxxed out at that rpm.
