This is what I have thought would be a good way to eliminate the moisture problem. I have seen a guy use the 36 point crank trigger off a ford V6 and make it work in place, but using the opti in a different place would be better IMO. The other good option is to make a completely sealed optical reader unit that stays in the stock location, but cannot get wet. Then, you could run the delteq or the LTCC on it without any issues. If a proper bracket were devised for the sensor, you could even set it up so that you would not have to remove the WP to get it off for replacement. Usually, opti issues are rarer when the high voltage is taken out of the unit.

Yes it works.

You use a TPI distributor remove the guts and put the opti wheel and electronics in its place. It will then supply the correct high and low resolution pulses to the PCM. The PCM then controls the engine injection and spark once the distributor is correctly phased, and it all works like a charm.

This isn't speculation a friend and I converted an old style 406 to use LT1 based fuel injection. The system worked great the only problem is water getting into the cap. The TPI cap is not designed for the needed electrical interface...

A new approach is to modify the old style timing cover, use an LT1 cam and dowel and install the opti out front of the old style motor.

For the boat I would say water will find the opti in any location so probably need a different setup.
