1996 LT1 need some help over here My friend bought Camaro 1996 M6 yesterday but hes facing some problems like if you shift it to 1st the shifter dont want to stay there it comes back the same goes to the other speeds like 3rd and 5th and Reverse,he got all warning lights on but there is a light that I dont understand its red and its like a resistor shape bit with two lines each side what is it? these are the problems hes facing right now and some other things like exhaust leak,change the pads,ball joint(like the ex owner claims) I will take few pictures today

Well the gear popping out problem sounds like the synchro's are junk in the trans. His best bet is to either yank out the tranny and re-build it or just start hunting junk yards for a used tranny. There is no real easy fix other than replacing the synchro mesh. But if its been beat on bad enough to have the synchro's wasted, the tranny itself is tired and needs re-building. As for the light try & get a picture of it. i have a 96 formula and don't remember having a light like that. Maybe coolant?? but just a wild guess

from Six Speeds - those aren't "rebuilt kits" you buy and rebuild yourself.

leadfoot4 No I dont think so the shifter just comes back to neutral if you shift it to 1st,3rd,5th and reverse my friend bought this car for a great price somwhere around 3000-3300$ thats cheap in my country
