Default lt1 cutting cutting out and other shenanigans

hey guys, i just bought a '94 forumula m6, and before you say it, i have searched.. but any way, the car when it warms up, becomes hard to start, and sometimes will cut out, fall on it's face and backfire alot.. it seems kinda like an ignition problem, im leaning twards the ignition module. but is this a common problem. and is the ignition module the finned aluminum box by the coil? and the car seems to be lacking power as well

It does sound like the ICM (ignition control module) which is the aluminum finned piece you described.

Easy way to determine is take the ICM off (2 bolts) and take it along with the coil to AZ or Advance Auto and they can test them both for you and tell you if they are any good. Most likely the ICM or Opti, but you can rule one out by having them test it.

Could be serveral things but it sounds like what mine was doing when the ignition switch was going bad not the icm but could be either what was going was once the car was running for a lilttle while the switch would get hot , it sits on top of the colum, might want to check it as well Also the icm sits on the finned piece you described
