Default What's with this oil pressure?

383 supercharged. Shows EXCELLENT oil pressure at cold start and almost a RED LINE oil pressure when it warms up. What's the frst thing you would check? changed all kinds of oil and didn't seem to help much, I even went all the way up to 20w50 oil grade.

I am burning oil and was planing to rebuild my 383, but does the oil pressure has anything to do with a bad ring or bad valave (Reasons I'm thinking I'm burning oil).

Thanks for all your help in advance guys, your comments/opinions will be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, do you trust the gauge? Try a different gauge.

Red line high or red line low?

Oil pressure depends on the pump, bearing clearances, and lifters. If any of those are too loose, it'll show as low oil pressure. Have anything 'different' in the motor?

I had a pressure issue in my LS1 car. The small base circle cam didn't work well with the solid roller lifters I was using. The lifter oil gallery was leaking past the ring on the lifter. Switched lifters to a different brand and boom, there was the oil pressure.

Well, I know I have an issue in the engine, so it's not the gauge. It's showing red low oil pressure not high. The engine is burning oil and i can see and smell it as well, I will end up taking the engine out and fix it, I just thought to see if someone can guess what's the issue.

Sounds like a worn out rod bearing to me. Possibly close to spinning.

My Fiero motor did that when I first got it. It ran fine when cold, but when it warmed up, oil pressure got pretty low and there was a small audible knock. I dropped the oil pan and replaced the very worn rod bearings (15 bucks worth of parts), and that was 5k+ miles ago. Oil pressure is up at normal levels now and no knocks are there to be heard.
