Default ok gear swap question?

ok i got a 96 trans am 6 speed, longtubes, orypipe, and k&n cai, and i am going to get 4:10's, what would i have to do in order to get 4:10 gears? would i have to get the speedometer recalibrated? or what all needs to be done with a gear swap?

well you can get away with just getting two new pinion bearings, pinion seal, and crush sleeve and throwing em in, but if youre going to take it all apart like that, change all the bearings. you can get a kit that includes all bearings, seals, and ring gear bolts to rebuild the rear end and i would highly recommend that. you need to set the backlash so you better get a dail indicator or have a shop do it.

as for the speedometer, i think some cars might have a speedo adapter or some **** you can plug in or something...i dont know my way is to just get a tune. that can calibrate your pinion factor for you.

well backlash is the play between the gears. you dont want them meshing too tight nor too loose, i dont know the specs but i believe its somewhere around .015". thats probably wrong i have done one in awhile.

this is what youre looking for:

get the one that has all bearings, seals, shims, and bolts to rebuild the rear end.
