Default In need of ecm

So, my local junkyards, even the one on national data bases cant find me a puter for my 93.
So.. It looks like I'll be spending more than I wanted to.
Any of you know where I can pick up a 93 puter reasonably cheap? Preferably, with a stock prom?

consider converting to 94/95 could be done fairly cheap. I have bought ecm and harnes for $125 b4

I'd like to keep my speed density setup. Can the 94/95 operate well without a MAF ( On stock tune temporarily)

YES

It has sped density selection and can be programed with tunercat and collect data from datamaster so is an option. Many b bodys go to bone yards

I suggest you two discuss in private.

Personally the 94/95 is a nice setup especially of you need to fix yours. Mod is obviously factory and do't forget you sell what you don't use so price is not bad when it is all said and done.

BUT remember 97 ecm is different so you will ned 94/5 ecm

Im not really looking to go the OBD2 route. But, What is involved in going with a 94/95 computer? They seem to be much more available.
Would it be as simple as getting a wireing harness from a 94/95(maybe a MAF too) and reinstalling?

Some people are becoming confused with terms. 92 and 93 are the ONLY LTx motors with an ECM. 94-97 are PCM since they also control the transmission, hence the P which is Powertrain. E is just Engine only.

I can't believe you can't find an ECM anywhere in the states. Did you try car-part.com?

As far as converting, I think 94 would bet he simplest to convert to w/o having to change a WHOLE bunch of other things. And as mentioned, yes a PCM can run in Speed Density mode, but aren't setup as well. After a tune, to make them intentionally run in SD mode, they work much better. The original SD mode is more of a fall-back if the MAF fails.

I just checked out car-part.com. its a good resource, thanks for the link.
But... For the price of most of the ecm's on that site, I could go with a new item from Gmpartsdirect. $170+ core gets me a new ecm apparently. I just wanted to go the cheap route, and maybe faster than the estimated 2 weeks to get one.

There's a "CORE" by me for $83, but who knows if it's a good or bad core heh. The rest are pretty damn expensive, I'm surprised.

Yeah... I guess its because they were only produced 2 years they're rare, and therefor, valuable. I still have a couple options. Autozone, even though I dont like dealing with them, offer a lifetime warrenty on an ecm for $3, and some change. The good thing about them, is they quoted me a 2-3 day shipping time. Gmpartsdirect offers no warrenty, and will likely take 2-3weeks for $200 ish including shipping. Im still waiting to hear back from my local go to guy. he deals with a company in central massachusetts( im east of boston, yes.. east) thats got a very large yard...
So I dont know which way to go.. I dont mind spending the cash.. I just want my toy back on the road.. hah.. got to get some more milage on it... only been 8k this last year... hah.

I'd go Autozone, depending on their ECM price, and then get the warranty on it. Not that ECMs go bad often, I've not have one go out on me. The nice bit about ECMs compared to PCMs though is the fact that if it does go bad, chances are the PROM will be OK and we can remove them

If he doesn't buy the harness write me...

A friend just asked me how much you want for the harness. The good news is he will convert a 93 TA with a burnt harness to 94/95 flash.

Then I can program the 93 TA computer to whatever program you want in it. I have a programmer for the 92/93 setup, so could be a double swap that works out.

The computers are often called ECM/PCM interchangeably. The important difference is the early speed density have a chip, the later has a Flash ROM. The flash rom can be reprogrammed in place the earlier have to have the rom removed to be reprogrammed, and the earlier do not control transmission.

If you use a EEPROM with a remote chip holder and signal booster piggy back, along with a few other parts, you can program the ECMs in the car

Incoming PM though Battle.
