Default Magnaflow exhaust questions..

Heres my situation. I sold my 94 V6 a few weeks ago and i'm planning on getting a LT1. I asked around seeing whats up for sale, and I found a 95 Z28 for sale that i'm really interested in.

I had a Magnaflow exhaust system on my old V6 Camaro. Sounded pretty bad *** for a V6 at idle, but sounded pretty bad when over 3000rpms.

On my way back to work (making a part run), a LT1 Z28 (not sure what year) pulled up next to me turning left in the turning lane at a stop light. Looked like a clean car, but it sounded just a little louder than a stock exhaust system. Wasnt loud at all. I asked him what kind of exhaust it was, and he responded with "Magnaflow cat-back system". Light turned green and he went off. I'm like WTF .

I was planning on getting a Magnaflow exhaust system as my first mod to the Z28, but after hearing how QUIET this one was, I'm really turned off to it. My V6 was louder and had a better rumble than this, Thats why i'm kind of confused right now.

Whats the deal here... Are they pretty quiet or loud? Was this just a weird occasion?

magnaflow is actually one of the more subtle catbacks. the upside to that is you dont get as much rasp and pop as you would with say a louder flowmaster.

magnaflow is a good choice if you plan on doing LTs someday and also if you want to keep the car for awhile, as the entire catback is stainless steel.

if you want something loud weld a bullet into the i-pipe and hack off the muffler and have an exhaust shop weld a y-pipe for dual tips. i had that on my 97 TA and it was cheap and very effective.

depends if he had just a magnaflow muffler or the whole catback. i know my car sounded a little better with the full catback. there known to be pretty quiet but sound great with Longtubes and cam!

I actually have never heard a Magnaflow on an LT1 other than my own car, but it's never been attached to anything but longtubes. It is louder than stock at idle, while still not too loud. At WOT it just screams.

Yeah, Later on down the road i'd like to put LT's on it and a mild cam. nothing major.. Just enough to have a nice rumble.

headers open it up a bit, but the catback itself is quiet unless you provoke it.

Hers has pacesetter mids with a single cat. I'm getting ready to do mine with longtubes O/R Y and magnaflow. I really like the tone. It just sounds good.
