Default Opti install.... what wentwrong?

Yea another opti thread. today i spent a good amount of my day finishing up my opti replacement, i used a OEM from summit. The car started but runs like Sh*t. While idling it goes up and down from about 600 to 1000 rpm and driving it makes a grinding sound in the motor when i give it a medium amount of gas... so what do yall think?

Did you buy the ACDelco replacement? Did the opti slide on? As in, no forcing? Plug wires correct? Harmonic balancer on straight?

I know it's stupid, but it's always something small.

i turned the gears to line it up but i didnt use any force and i ran it in the dark so that rules out the plug wires, would the harmonic balancer really cause this?

Plug wires aren't crossed? All the grounds put back on? Is the opti fitting flush against the block? The opti housing should be up against the block if installed correctly. Also as he said make sure the balancer is on completely.

im almost definite there not crossed, and yes the grounds are back on, and the distributor felt like it slid on pretty good and looked flush. Also when i drove it, right when i started off and let the clutch out it started shaking and making me bounce if that helps? anymore ideas i really want my car to be running its summer and i needa car!

Plug the MAF back in? I forgot to do that one time and could not figure why my car was running funny. LOL Anyway make sure the balancer is on completely. Is the car backfiring or missing at all? Hard starts or does it fire right up?

you cant re use them, or get them seperate. it could also be your waterpump bearing. but you have no coolant leak.

Sounds like the splines weren't lined up correctly. Trust me it happens...

well even tho it bolted up good and it appeared it was against the block this could still mean they are misaligned? and the rotor was good, its brand new and i checked it before installation

the shaking you describe sounds like a severe misfire. a good possiblility your plug wires are on wrong or the splines for the opti are in wrong. dont worry, we've all done that before. its just a matter of backtracking and checking each thing out.

If his plug wires were crossed, it would be backfiring like a **** and running super rich.

well i labeled all of the wires and two pieces of tape fell off, so i switched those two and it really sounds like its running on all cyl. , and as i said i ran it in the dark and no sparks. the grinding sound is pretty bad, so im pretty sure the gears arent lined up, it really felt like i got it on right though.... so just realign the b*tch? and the rotor position doesnt matter?
