it explains it pretty well in the car manual but it basically forces you to shift from first to fourth during certain situations. For example it'll come on for me if i go from a stop and take off very slowly it'll light up forcing me to shift to fourth unless i speed up. I know others can explain it more in depth and the exact times it comes on but i hope this helps some what.

I dont think the 93's have the skip ship solenoid. My 93 has NEVER forced me into fourth, or any other gear for that matter. For what its worth though, Ive got a borg warner 6spd.

The skip shift just locks out 2nd and 3rd gear. All you have to do is let the engine rev beyond 4,500-5,000rpm and the skip shift will disengage and you can shift to 2nd. The skip shift eliminator is only $30 and is very easy to install (it just plugs in to the wire running along the right side of the tranny). If you don't see the light then you don't have skip shift.

The skip shift eliminator probably should be the first mod on any M6 F-body. I couldn't take it for even a week.

To satisfy the gov't mileage requirements. I think without it the M6 F-bodies would have had the gas guzzler tax. Actually it was pretty clever on GM's part because they made it real easy to defeat.

the guy who had my car before me took it out, but I am not sure how he did it. I don't want it back, but I am curious how he went about it. The light still comes on though.

That must be a typo. I can circumvent it by running the car to 2500 rpms, there is no need to run it as high as you are.

to stop it from forcing you into 4th the solenoid disable cable works but if you want the light to stop coming on and the code to keep coming back you have to have it disabled with a tune

its a good thing not to have it. i bought the thing off ebay to get rid of it just havent gotten around to installing it. if your going too slow it wont let you shift into 2nd before 2500 rpms. it sucks. it doesnt sound that bad but it is.
