What Octane you guys running?

It's kind of a standard rule that aluminum head 10:1 compression small blocks should run premium gas to keep kr at bay! You can run less octane if you don't plan on beating it. Like others have said for a couple extra bucks run the good stuff!!! Also don't run octane over 100, doing this will cost you power by making the car run rich. If you tune for it, then you could pick up a few hp possibly !!!

Again, I run 87 with no problems untill I REALLY get up in the Rs. I don't beat on it very often (moreso now since the trans is almost totally gone). I've not heard one good reason why we can't run 87 and HAVE to run 91+.
As for running over 100, there's a gain to be had. Better throttle response if anything.

im sure you know how octane works. resistance to igniting, pretty much. so with 87, it burns faster. higher compression needs higher octane so it does not pre ignite. putting 87 in a car that states 91, will guarantee you pre ignition, which is BAD BAD BAD.
running over 100 octane in a stock lt1 is a good way to wash down the cylinder walls...

Over 100 on a daily basis will probably be harmful, but only every so often I can't see doing all that much harm unless your ignition system is on it's way out and not making a good spark :\

eh, its not worth the trouble to run 87. if i want to drive like grandma, thats what my dakota is for, which is getting me ~30mpg. 
its not so much the ignition system, there is just not enough squeeze to get that high octane to burn

Who knows, maybe it's just because I own a 93, but I don't gain that much SOTP when using higher octane. My knock is still there as well, but again like I said before, that's probably mostly my fault lol

I only run 93. I tried 89 for a couple tanks. The first tank it was fine because it mixed with a little 93. But, the 2nd tank it ran like complete crap and I had significantly worse gas mileage. I only had 125 miles at the half tank mark, with easy driving. I usually have anywhere from 150-175, with a lead foot, on 93. If I really baby it on 93 and do some highway driving, I can get around 200 miles by the half way mark. I'd say it's definately worth the extra $0.20, or so, per gallon. Besides, that's only another $2, for every 10 gallons. And with 15.5 gallon tanks, we're not going to spend anymore than $2 or $3 more, per fill-up, going to Premium from Regular.

yeah. his mindset was if there is a problem, the computer will fix it. lol, he needs to stick to carb cars

sick. my fathers is a 72, but he has the high compression 455 in it, with a worked turbo 400 also. he got it painted metallic turquoise and put mother of pearl stripes on the ram air scoops. white soft top, white leather interior... its so sickk. right now its in a tent
