Ok,I have a street driver '94 Z28 see sig. below. I've drove it 3 months with EGR turned off and the past 2 months with it enabled . Honestly I can't feel any difference. Since it only kicks in between 900 and 2300 RPM it's off when you really need power anyway. I know the heat cooks the rear intake manifold oil seal, it blackens the inside of the intake manifold and the engine looks neater without the extra hardware. But for someone concerned with dumping NOX into the air is there actually a published performance gain that warrants disabling it ??

No gain at all performance wise. The reasons to remove it are:
  • Clean up the engine bay.
  • Fix the intake manifold heat issue.
  • One less thing to be a pain in your *** when it breaks.

And if it does break, it CAN cause some fuel economy issues if it sticks open. Don't think it'll cause any noticeable performance loss if it does though.

then theres the rumor of blowing your head gasket because our cam doesnt have enough overlap to bleed the cylinder pressure.

gotta love the internet.

haha I remember that post. I told him that I guess I'll be looking to blow my gasket any time now since I tuned mine out completely and I'm still fully stock block.

Thanks for the responses, bottom line - no performance hit if on and functioning correctly. My next mod is going to headers, but here in GA I have to pass sniffer test and have the EGR working. If EGR has to be there to get tags and possible future sale of the car I may as well buy headers with the emission fittings, put up with the known negatives and keep it activated.

My EGR is still in place, I just removed all the vac lines for it, and it's tuned out. Some people have passed w/ it tuned out. There are cams that also mimic what the EGR does, so you could get provisionless headers and that cam and have a high probability of passing, of course with a tune for the new cam.

im about to make some block off plates for mine out of the sheetmetal i cut out of the car's rear for the fuel pump access

my flange for my LTs was a factory defect, and the tube was a bitch to get in. i had to crimp it to get it in and it leaked.

im still a little paranoid about the headgasket rumor and leaving the solenoid so i wont get an SES
