Default Fuel problem "Need help fast"

I just checked the fuel pressure on my 97, its sitting at 25 lbs. at idle, it drops about 2-3 lbs. when i bring up the RPMs above 2500 or so, when i turn the key on, it'll go to about 10, sometimes not even that, Now i just installed a new Walbro 255 pump last month, i can hear the pump strong on the prime, i'm glad i checked this, i had a strong feeling something wasn't right.

Also, when i disconnect the pressure reg., the gauge reads the same, could it be the reg., it is original with 158K on it? I need to fix this before friday night, HELP lol.

Considering stock is 43psi off vacuum, Id say you have a problem.

Got any leaks? Hows your pre/post filters? You could swap regulators.

When you pull off the vacuum line to the fuel pressure regulator, do you see or smell gas?

Pre filter is the filter thats on the bottom of the pump itself. Its a "pre" pump filter. The post filter is the one thats near the LCA's on the bottom of the car, its "post" or after the fuel pump.

If you have a clogged filter its going to affect your FP.

Tony.

If you haven't changed your fuel filter, I would do that first. It might be the easiest thing to do. Then check your pressure again.

You could do the regulator if that doesn't turn out to be the problem. It's a little more work than the filter, but it is still pretty easy to replace.

No, i don't see or smell gas at the vacuum port of the reg., Yes, both filters are new.

I pulled out the fuel rail & brought it home, i've taken the reg. off, looks to me its mounted on the return side of the fuel system, or am i backwards, its mounted with a the 5/16 line comming out one side, not the 3/8 side, i checked the gauge on my 91 Olds, its working fine, with key on it hit 40 PSI, at idle it was at 35, then when i reved it up, it jumped to 43 PSI, so i can rule out this brand new gauge as the problem.

I just hope its the regulator, because it doesn't budge when i disconnect the line, i just don't see how it could be in the pump, i'm sitting at 22 in. vacuum at that port, so the vacuums good, even with the old pump it had issues with starting, its better now, but only when cold, but it doesn't run as good as did with the old pump. Is there any way to tell if the reg. is bad if you have it in your hand & pull vacuum on it?

What type of fuel hose did you use when you installed your new intank pump? This is the problem 99% of the time. Buy a good kit with the correct flex hose & you will save yourself a lot of grief.
