Default valve lashing?

Well was going to pikesville md tues nite for MD state police orientation when i heard was sounded like a tapping. so i turned radio off and sure enough there it was! WTF! my first two thoughts were it almosts sounds like an exhaust manifold leak or a valve tap. well i had a buddy of mine listen to it and he says that i need to adjust/tighten the valve lashing. Anyone have any experience with this? iv never done it before . thanks

Lash should not change. If it has look for the cause.

Look for loose rocker nuts, bent pushrods, failed lifters.

Hard to say with as little detail as your sig provides.

If you have non-SA rockers and guideplates, be aware most guideplates don't really fit and some were not hardened well causing wear and alignment issues.

There was one sort of lifter popular for awhile that had isses.

The listed "spin the pushrod till you feel resistance" will almost always result in WAY too tight.
Zero lash is when there is no ore vertical slop in the pushrod. Pretty much right when the polylock makes contact, not even finger tight, just touching.

Perzactely. Spinning a pushrod can lead to extreme inconsistent adjustments. Wiggling a pushrod up/down until play is eliminated is a much better alternative.

You can buy a wrench that hods a t-handle allen key which would be nice. I use a allen key socket on a small breaker bar and a regular box end wrench, but just a regular L-shaped allen wrench and box end wrench will work fine.
