Cams!! Hey all, I just bought another LT1 (94) and wondering if the Hot Cam is still avail? I herd not to long ago that they stopped making it...true. If not I want to throw one on the new ride.

I Just installed a hotcam kit. Just got it fired up today. It will pass the sniffer with a tune, maybe with out a tune. I bought it for steetability and that you dont have to run a stall. Im hoping to see 325 335ish Rwhp.
I bought my kit from someone on Cz28.com who bought it and never installed it. Picked it up for 350 bucks NIB.

Personally in that case I would go 227 because the torque will come in sooner and greater. Both will have good torque but the 227 is more known to be a torque monster. Both will pass emissions no problem. Another one to consider would be the LPE 211/219, which will act similar to the Crane.

Crane 227 (210/224 114 LSA) will still work great as long as you want to shift around 5900-6000 RPM or so.
if you wanna shift at a higher RPM, there are better catalog cams and a custom cam can improve even more over them.
The CC 503 (224/230 112 LSA) is a good choice for still passing emissions and work with that gear/stall. It will pull to 6200 RPM or so.
Others will work for you but these are the most common catalog cams that will pass emissions.

That cam seems like a little to much for a stock LT1..I have heard of a few guys having problems passing smog with the 503..I don't see this cam beeing a good choice with stock heads and no headers or other bolt-ons to go with it. Just my 2 cents...
If they are still wanting to shift at 6200 RPM, they are gonna need a cam like this or even larger. It is fine with a 6 speed and an A4 will be better off with a stall but the "right" cam choice is about how much low end power the customer is willing to scarifice and how high he is willing to shift at.
This cam is mild enough to pass emisions easily unless the tune is off or other problems are presnt (dirty MAF, leaks in elbow between TB and MAF, exhaust leaks, clogged inj, bad o2's, etc, etc).

1 3/4 headers and CAI should be FIRST on any build up . . . way before a cam swap. I was just following the theme of the thread towards cam selection.
I would do a good Yank/Vigilante stall converter (if A4) and exhaust system before a cam as well if it were me.
